Town of Prescott Valley

The town of Prescott Valley, formerly known as Lonesome Valley, was settled by ranchers in the 1880s who raised beef to supply miners and new settlers. In 1863 Gold was discovered at Lynx Creek in Prescott by the Walker Party. In all a recorded 29,000 troy ounces was produced. Some estimates of the actual gold produced at Lynx Creek reach as high as 80,000 troy ounces and at 2011 gold prices the worth would be approximately $85 million.

Surrounded by the Prescott Valley National Forest, Prescott Valley’s wildlife includes the Bald Eagle, Western Meadowlark and the Arizona Cliffrose. Elevated at 5,100 feet and mild seasons residents are surrounded by a myriad of activities such as hiking, boating and fishing.

The town of Prescott Valley celebrates a diversified economy that includes retail, manufacturing and healthcare. Due to the relatively inexpensive housing and mild climate it is one of the fastest growing communities in Arizona. Located in Yavapai County, Prescott Valley is approximately 85 miles north of Phoenix and 15 miles north of Prescott.

On August 22, 1978 Prescott Valley was incorporated as a town, prior to the incorporation more than 1500 residents were living in the then unincorporated area known as Prescott Valley. Today it boasts a population of over 42,000 residents.
